Green Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and award programme, working with primary and secondary schools across the country. There are many different themes to work towards on a bi-annual basis. We started our school garden years ago and every year the children enjoy the products of it. They sew their seeds in spring and harvest them in Term 1, followed by exciting cooking/baking of the results where the pupils enjoy rhubarb crumble, rhubarb tart, rhubarb and custard, vegetable soup, apple pie, stewed apples and a healthy salad.

The school had the opportunity to keep and look after incubated eggs. There was great excitement as the children listened to a talk about how the eggs needed to be carefully looked after, the conditions required and the possibility of having live baby chicks in the school. The hatching brought further excitement to see these scrawny looking birds turn into fluffy yellow chirping chicks.
